VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

District Coordinators – Nuwara Eliya & Kegalle

(GEF-07 Project: Partnerships and Innovative Financing to Mainstream Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Management in the Wet Zone)

Janathakshan (Gte) Ltd is seeking two dynamic and committed District Coordinators, one for Nuwara Eliya District and one for Kegalle District, for the GEF-07 project. The project aims to enhance biodiversity conservation and promote sustainable land management practices within Sri Lanka’s wet zone landscapes.

Positions

  • 1. District Coordinator – Nuwara Eliya
  • 2. District Coordinator – Kegalle

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement project activities at district level.
  • Mobilize and engage plantation communities, RPCs, smallholder farmers, and other local stakeholders.
  • Facilitate community meetings, awareness sessions, and training.
  • Collect field-level data for monitoring and reporting.
  • Support gender mainstreaming, social inclusion, and environmental safeguard actions.
  • Document field experiences, challenges, and lessons learned for project learning.
  • Collaborate with local authorities, community groups, and project partners.
  • Provide regular updates to the Project Manager/Regional Coordinator.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 2 years' relevant experience; OR
  • Diploma/Secondary Education with 6 years of relevant field experience.
  • 2-3 years' experience in agriculture, environment, rural development, community mobilization, or a similar field.
  • Experience working with farmers, CBOs, and local government institutions.
  • Familiarity with gender, environmental safeguards, and social inclusion approaches.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong coordination, community facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and digital communication tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid motorbike riding licence is required.

Language

  • Proficiency in Tamil is an added advantage.
