VACANCY – ASSISTANT ENGINEER – MECHANICAL

EL-TORO Roofing Products Ltd is Sri Lanka’s first manufacturer of eco-friendly fiber cement products, using environmentally sustainable raw materials. Our state-of-the-art, fully automated 24/7 manufacturing facility in Chilaw reflects our commitment to innovation, quality and sustainability.
We are seeking a dynamic and technically capable Assistant Engineer – Mechanical to support reliable plant operations, maintenance excellence, continuous improvement and engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Support mechanical engineering operations to achieve plant performance, reliability and productivity targets.
- Plan, coordinate and execute preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance for production machinery, utilities and vehicles.
- Monitor equipment condition, identify recurring failures and support root-cause analysis and corrective actions to reduce downtime.
- Prepare and maintain maintenance schedules, work orders, equipment records and relevant engineering documentation.
- Support the engineering team in achieving KPIs, improving equipment availability and maintaining safe and efficient operations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Health & Safety, Environmental, QMS and EMS requirements.
- Support CAPEX, equipment modification, fabrication, installation, commissioning and engineering improvement projects.
- Assist in identifying and implementing cost-effective equipment upgrades and process improvements, considering safety, quality, time and cost.
- Maintain appropriate levels of mechanical spare parts, consumables and critical components to support uninterrupted plant operation.
- Use engineering principles, analytical thinking, research and technical problem-solving to improve plant reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
- B Sc / B Eng. Degree in Mechanical Engineering; a master’s qualification will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, maintenance or manufacturing operations.
- Sound knowledge of mechanical systems, machinery maintenance, pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Knowledge of Automobile, workshop operations and engineering design definite advantage.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Good analytical, problem-solving and technical communication skills.
- Good command of English, with the ability to prepare technical reports and communicate effectively.
- Self-motivated, disciplined and able to work effectively in a fast-paced 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- A collaborative team player with a positive attitude and strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
