Background: The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPASL), the pioneer in Family Planning and Reproductive Health Education, is an accredited member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) in the United Kingdom.
The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPASL) is the pioneer institution to initiate and establish a space for Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services in the country. While its aim is to develop components related to health and wellbeing, FP A Sri Lanka also molds the quality of peoples’ lives. Being in existence for 70 years, FPASL has made vast strides in every area of family health including family planning.
The Outreach Unit of the Family Planning Association provides essential SRH and family planning services to underserved, marginalized, and rural communities by reaching the unreached. Through its ten Service Delivery Points, the Outreach Unit of FPASL Sri Lanka ensures that various SRH and Family Planning needs are fulfilled for various vulnerable populations, including youth.
According to estimates of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, youth accounted for more than 23% of the country’s total population. Due to lack of access to proper sexual and reproductive health education, young people are vulnerable to a number of SRH related risks, such as early/teenaged pregnancies, increased STI/HIV infection among youth, intimate partner violence among youth and other negative impacts of unsafe sexual behavior and unhealthy relationships. For this reasons, FPASL has taken various initiatives to provide essential SRH information to youth and encourage SRH service and support seeking behavior.
As one such initiative, the Outreach Unit of FPASL intends to provide young people the access to comprehensive sexuality education programmes and referral support to SRH services through a youth-support community programme, namely; Volunteer Youth Ambassadors.
FPASL is seeking an energetic, dynamic youth volunteer with sufficient knowledge in Sexual and reproductive health, and experience in youth programming to spearhead our initiatives in Colombo, Gampaha, Galle, Nuwara Eliya, Ampara, Monaragala, Kandy, Puttalam, Kilinochchi and Batticaloa districts.
FPASL is committed to the safety and protection of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and this role may include contact with these groups. Our recruitment and selection procedures reflect our commitment to the safety and protection of children, young people, and vulnerable adults in our programs.
