Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer
Janathakshan (GTE) Ltd ( www.janathakshan.lk ) is seeking a motivated, organized and detail-oriented Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer to support the implementation of the GEF-7 project: “Partnerships and Innovative Financing to Mainstream Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Management in the Wet Climatic Zone of Sri Lanka” The M & E Officer will play a key role in project monitoring, data management, reporting, and Accountability and Learning processes (MEAL) to ensure effective implementation and achievement of project objectives.
The project is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and UNDP, with activities covering Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update the project M&E tracking system, indicator database and monitoring dashboards.
- Collecting, compiling and organizing, monitoring data and supporting evidence.
- Tracking project progress against the Annual Work Plan, Results Framework, milestones and approved targets.
- Support monthly, quarterly and annual monitoring and reporting requirements.
- Participate in field monitoring visits and verification exercises across project locations.
- Verifying reported achievements using source documents, field observations, photographs, attendance records and other supporting evidence.
- Conduct basic data quality, completeness and consistency checks.
- Maintaining an organized project monitoring evidence repository and audit trail.
- Support the maintenance of the project Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) records.
- Prepare monitoring updates, indicator summaries, presentations and inputs for donor and project reports.
- Maintain action trackers for monitoring findings, risks, issues and corrective actions.
- Support documentation of lessons learned, good practices and case studies.
- Provide other M&E and project coordination support as assigned by the Project Manager.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Monitoring & Evaluation, Development Studies, Statistics, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, Project Management, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in monitoring and evaluation, project data management, development projects or a related field.
- Knowledge/experience in biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management, climate change or community-based development and added advantage.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, verification, documentation and reporting.
- Ability to maintain databases, tracking systems and organized evidence repositories.
- Experience in field monitoring and working with project stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently/ maintain effective coordination with project teams and partners.
- Possession of a valid motorcycle driving licence an added advantage.
