A leading maritime education and training institution in Sri Lanka is seeking an experienced maritime professional to take on the position of General Manager / Principal.

This is a senior executive role responsible for providing strategic, commercial, academic, and regulatory leadership to drive sustainable growth, academic excellence, financial performance, and institutional development in line with global maritime industry standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Managing Director and shareholders to develop and implement the institution's strategic direction.
- Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost optimization and effective resource allocation.
- Identify new business opportunities, training programs, revenue streams, and strategic partnerships.
- Ensure academic excellence and compliance with STCW, IMO, MSS/DGMS, and other applicable maritime regulations.
- Lead curriculum development and introduce competency-based maritime training programs.
- Maintain and expand institutional accreditations and regulatory approvals with local and international authorities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with shipping companies, maritime regulators, flag administrations, and government agencies.
- Develop partnerships and frameworks to facilitate sea-time placements for cadets and trainees.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing management team and academic faculty.
- Drive marketing, branding, public relations, admissions, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
- Oversee infrastructure development, simulators, workshops, and training facilities.
- Establish and monitor KPIs covering academic performance, financial outcomes, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Strengthen corporate governance, risk management, and internal controls.
Candidate Requirements
- Master Mariner with substantial maritime industry experience.
- Proven senior leadership experience in maritime education, training, and development.
- Strong knowledge of STCW, IMO regulations, maritime regulatory frameworks, and accreditation processes.
- Proven commercial management and P&L leadership capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with regulators, government authorities, industry stakeholders, and boards.
- A strong track record in institutional growth, program development, and infrastructure management.
- Excellent leadership, strategic planning, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and business acumen.
