AUTOMOBILE HEAD MECHANIC

Requirements:

  • Diploma, NVQ Level 5/6, or equivalent qualification in Automobile Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in automobile repair and maintenance, including 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of petrol, diesel, and heavy vehicle mechanical systems.
  • Experience in diagnosing engine, transmission, brake, suspension, steering, and electrical system faults.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and service documentation.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and team management skills.
  • Good communication and organizational abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Tata and Hino diesel engines, transmission systems, brake systems, suspension, and electrical systems.
  • Valid driving licence (Light Vehicle; Heavy Vehicle licence will be an added advantage).
  • Applicants residing in or around Kalutara will be given preference.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and lead the vehicle maintenance and repair team.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults in company vehicles.
  • Plan and oversee preventive maintenance and repair schedules to ensure maximum fleet availability.
  • Allocate work among mechanics and monitor repair quality and productivity.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure they meet company and safety standards.
  • Maintain service records, repair histories, and maintenance reports.
  • Monitor spare parts inventory and coordinate procurement requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety procedures and proper workshop housekeeping.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to mechanics and apprentices.
  • Minimize vehicle downtime by ensuring timely and cost-effective repairs.
