Design & Production Lead
Colombo area • On-site • Full-time • Mon–Fri nights, 7:30 PM – 4:30 AM Sri Lanka time
We design and make 3D-printed products in Colombo for customers in the United States. We are hiring one person to lead our small night team: design new products in CAD, then turn into reliable print files, and keep our print farm producing, working live with the owner during his US working day.
About us
Zephyr's Market is a US e-commerce brand that designs and sells 3D-printed products, such as mounts, adapters and tool organisers, through Amazon and our own online store. Our Colombo-area facility runs a farm of 32 Bambu Lab, Sovol, Creativity and Qidi printers, managed through SimplyPrint. Our design and production team works on US hours, so the owner can work with them in real time.
About the role
You are the most senior person on site at night. You lead two Production & Support Technicians, keep the farm printing, and design and improve our products with the owner, who is online for your whole shift. You own the print files: every product has a tested file, named and tagged to our standard, so the farm runs well even when you are not there.
A year from now, success looks like this: new products go from idea to tested print file in days, failed prints are rare, every printer is maintained on schedule, and the technicians can run a night without calling you.
It is a hands-on job. Some nights you will spend more time fixing a printer than designing, and when the farm falls behind, you decide what ships first.
What you'll do
- Design new products and improve existing ones in CAD, working from the owner's briefs, customer feedback and measurements.
- Turn every design into a tested print file: choose the material, orientation and settings, test-print it, then name, tag and file it in SimplyPrint to our standard.
- Lead the night shift: keep the SimplyPrint queue moving, set the technicians' work, check their quality and make sure the night handover covers anything SimplyPrint doesn't show.
- Keep our 32 printers running: a maintenance schedule, nozzle and belt changes, diagnosis and repairs, and a stock of spare parts.
- Make the call on quality: check the first parts from every new file, and stop a job when parts are not right.
- Work live with the owner every night in English: share progress, raise problems early and agree priorities.
- Follow and improve our SOPs, including the strict rules that keep duty-free production stock separate from retail stock.
What we're looking for
Required
- At least 3 years designing parts in CAD (for example Fusion 360, SolidWorks or Onshape), including parts that were actually made. Send photos or files.
- Hands-on FDM 3D printing: slicing (Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer), materials such as PLA, PETG and TPU, and fixing failed prints.
- Has led a small team, a shift or a workshop, or trained other people.
- Good spoken and written English. You will work with the owner in English every night.
- Able to work Monday to Friday nights, 7:30 PM – 4:30 AM Sri Lanka time, at our facility.
Nice to have
- An engineering degree or diploma (BSc Eng, NDT, HNDE or similar), or a technical NVQ at Level 5 or above.
- Running several printers at once, or print-farm software such as SimplyPrint or Bambu Farm Manager.
- Designing for production: tolerances, fasteners, snap fits and fewer parts per product.
- Printer electronics and firmware: replacing boards, sensors and hotends.
Pay
- LKR 130,000 – 170,000 a month (gross), depending on experience.
- A night allowance of LKR 10,000 a month, and a paid ride home after every shift.
- EPF and ETF contributions, as the law requires.
Your hours
- Monday to Friday nights, 7:30 PM – 4:30 AM Sri Lanka time, with a one-hour meal break. That is 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM in Chicago (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM during US summer time).
- Saturdays and Sundays off.
- On-site at our facility in Wattala, LK
- You report to the owner and lead two Production & Support Technicians.
