About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accountant with 5–7 years of relevant experience to join our dynamic team in the machinery trading sector. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing end-to-end accounting processes, financial compliance, and operational coordination related to imports, costing, and taxation. This is a critical position that supports business continuity, financial integrity, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute all international and domestic payment transactions, including wire transfers to overseas suppliers, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping agents, and customs clearance partners to ensure timely clearance and movement of shipments from port to warehouse.
- Track and monitor shipment schedules, maintain accurate records of deliveries, and liaise with operations teams to ensure smooth logistics flow.
- Conduct detailed cost analysis of imported goods including freight, duties, and overheads to arrive at accurate product costing and optimal sales pricing.
- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up with customers to ensure timely collections, and maintain up-to-date aging reports.
- Prepare monthly financial statements including Profit and Loss Account, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements.
- Handle VAT filings, income tax returns, and other statutory filings in accordance with local tax regulations and deadlines.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and government authorities as required.
- Maintain and update the general ledger, reconcile accounts, and ensure accurate record-keeping in line with accepted accounting principles.
- Support inventory valuation and monthly stock audits in coordination with warehouse and supply chain teams.
- Drive financial planning and budgeting, and provide support for business forecasts and variance analysis.
- Identify areas of process improvement within the finance and operations workflow and propose practical solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA will be an advantage.
- 5–7 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in trading, import/export, or logistics-based environments.
- Strong knowledge of Sri Lankan taxation laws, including VAT, income tax, and other statutory regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Tally, or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity and attention to detail.
