Assistant Manager Packaging Development
Reporting to – R&D Manager
Job Summary
- Develop and introduce new packaging solutions in line with business strategy
- Collaborate with other departments to deliver fit-for-use packaging solutions
- Support teams throughout the launch procedure
Duties and Responsibilities
- Effective and efficient New packaging development
- Provide packaging solutions for new products, range re-launches, and extensions
- Manage packaging critical path with NPD Development and relevant personnel
- Ensure customer approval of packaging during pre-production runs
- Coordination with marketing, procurement, and production teams and suppliers related to new product development and product re-engineering
- Ensure packaging meets customer and business expectations, adhering to legislative, quality, safety, and environmental standards
- Prepare MOCK samples, KLD, approve art works, Chromaline, and attend online proofing at printing stage
- Provide material specifications for procurement, conduct production and transit trials, finalize material specifications and process steps
- Provide packing material BOM for SAP system
- Manage and develop cost-saving initiatives with the procurement team
- Rationalize materials with the procurement team
- Conduct alternative supplier evaluation where appropriate
- Troubleshoot existing products and implement corrective actions
- Establish and manage supplier relationships
- Play an active role in commissioning new equipment by attending trials and reporting findings
Requirements/Qualifications
- A Degree from a science stream
- Minimum 5 years in packaging development in a FMCG company in a similar capacity
- Experience in AutoCAD/Illustrator/Coral draw will be beneficial
- Well versed with printing technologies, Plastic and glass packaging, and functional development testing of packaging materials
- Diploma or course in packaging development will be beneficial
- Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills
