Job Description
Assistant Manager
Soul & Surf Sri Lanka has been the leading surf and yoga stay on the island since 2014. We’re a small, hands-on team delivering surf, yoga, food, and retreat experiences — and we’re looking for an Assistant Manager to work closely with the General Manager to own day-to-day operations across both the retreat and café.
This isn’t a big hotel with separate departments and shift managers. You’ll often be the most senior person on site, expected to move between guest check-ins, kitchen coordination, maintenance issues, and financial admin in a single morning. If you thrive on variety, autonomy, and thinking on your feet, this will suit you. If you prefer a defined desk role with clear boundaries, it won’t.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily staff coordination — briefings, rotas, and making sure tasks are completed to standard
- Own the guest experience from check-in to check-out — handle queries, solve problems on the spot, make guests feel looked after
- Handle daily cash management — reconciliation, petty cash, and ensuring accurate records
- Keep operational admin up to date: checklists, trackers, handover notes, and reporting
- Track stock levels, place orders, and coordinate with suppliers before things run out
- Step into service roles when needed (café, bar, hosting)
- Drive events, retreats, and day-to-day logistics
- Work closely with the GM on reporting, planning, and improvements
Essentials For The Role
- Previous experience in hospitality, preferably in a supervisory or assistant management role
- Fluent in English, spoken and written
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Comfortable with numbers — cash handling, basic financial tracking, and spreadsheets
- Confident managing people and handling responsibility
- Able to multitask and stay calm under pressure
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Ahangama area (staff housing available)
- Positive, proactive, and hands-on attitude
- Willing to jump into any area of the business when needed
- A good understanding of and alignment with the Soul & Surf ethos
Hours
Full-time, 8 hours a day, 6 days a week (Some overtime or extra hours during peak times and events)
Benefits
Competitive salary, staff accommodation or housing contribution, meals on shift and being part of an international team with a strong culture.
