ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT – FINANCE

This position is responsible for ensuring the tax compliance of the bank and the group managing and planning the tax function, while providing tax advices on new business transaction to maximize benefits and support decision making. Ensure timely submission and accurate return as per the regulatory guidelines and the approved policy documents of the bank to the regulatory bodies (CBSL/SEC) while ensuring capital forecast for the bank as per the long term strategy are prepared to support various business decisions.

THE JOB

  • To be updated on all applicable tax laws, regulatory requirements, accounting standards, accounting practices and tax practices adapted by the industry peer groups in managing the tax functions
  • Ensure computation of each tax by identifying tax bases, exemption, exclusions and relevant tax rates as per the tax laws in effect and the approved policies and procedures of the bank
  • To interpret and analyze tax notices/ demands/ disputes against the applicable law, actual data, precedents, market practices and such others
  • To ensure capital plans/ forecast for the bank and the group are in line with the long term strategy of the bank and incorporation of the other relevant factors on periodic manner to identify the capital requirements/ impact on capital/ business growth opportunities for management decision making proactively
  • Analyze and inform the impact to the Capital Adequate Ratio and other regulatory ratios on various new business evaluations/ transactions/ strategic decisions to be taken by the business lines/ Management of the bank
  • Ensure all regulatory reporting such as Capital Adequacy, SLAR, LCR, RPT NSFR and regulatory financial statement etc. to various regulatory and statutory bodies such as Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Government Treasury, Finance Ministry and SEC etc. are complied with the specific deadlines
  • To ensure the adequacy of impairment provision to the financial statement in accordance with the accounting standard, SLFRS 9 and impairment policy of the bank
  • To analyze collective impairment provision/ computation methodologies which involve product segmentation/ staging/ PDs/ LGDs/ EAD and highlight the Improvement/ affected areas to business lines/ senior management/ GRM to ensure proper provisions to the financial statements on continuous basis

THE PERSON

  • Possess a Bachelor degree in Accountancy, Commerce, Finance or related field together with the membership of CASL
  • Possess at least 15 years in the areas of taxation, impairment provisions under SLFRS 9 and CBSL reporting with at least 5 years of progressively increasing managerial responsibilities
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting standards including in-depth understanding of SLFRS 9
  • Strong understanding of CBSL regulatory requirements, including comprehensive knowledge of BASEL III guidelines
  • Competent in tax laws with strong attention to details
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
