The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Sri Lanka since 1956. GIZ is a development partner of the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) on topics ranging from private sector development and vocational training to renewable energy promotion, biodiversity conservation, reconciliation, and social cohesion.

The Role Specific responsibilities:

  • Project/office Accounting - Maintain accounting and financial-related data in the GIZ accounting system and ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting records for audit.
  • Project Internal Control - Planning, Conducting, Reporting and Evaluation
  • Invoice Checking, Verify and ensure correctness of voucher, accounting records, and check adequacy of supporting documents as per P+R.
  • Prepare documents for journal entries for bookkeeping and indicate their cost classification
  • Maintain proper filing of the GIZ office, as well as projects/programmes accounting vouchers and supporting documentation
  • Prepare monthly cash and bank account reconciliation.

  • Provide necessary documents and reports for internal control and support the Head of Finance in performing internal control of the projects
  • Monitoring unsettled Items.
  • Bank payments- Upload bank instructions to the Deutsche Bank online system.
  • Local contribution contracts – Checking interim settlements, follow up on long outstanding settlements, and release interim disbursements based on the disbursement plan.
  • Guiding and onboarding local contribution partners, in collaboration with project colleagues, on financial aspects.
  • Conduct relevant training for S/4HANA end users
  • Involving in the Tender opening process and coordinating with the respective department.
  • Settlement of domestic and international travel claims.
  • Liaison with the Head of Unit and HQ for transferring accounting folders & documents to HQ Germany with all the mandatory requirements as per GIZ rules
  • Complete procurement folders in DMS with all the payment-related documents as per GIZ's requirement
  • Withholding Tax WHT Settlement of all Projects / Programme
  • Any other tasks requested by management.

Required qualifications, competencies and experience:

  • University degree with specialization in Accounting / Finance, Administration or related field, and ACCA – Semi-qualifications would be beneficial
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field would be an advantage.
  • 5 years of in-depth experience in the SAP system on Accounting and Finance modules.
  • Having experience in the development sector would be beneficial.
  • Proven knowledge of conducting analysis with financial and management software
  • Experiences in financial auditing projects
  • Excellent communication skills in English; should possess training competencies in English and one national language
  • Have a good knowledge of IT and communication technologies (equivalent software as well as telephone, fax, email, internet) and computer applications (MS Office, especially Excel, as well as SAP, OnSITe Reporting or equivalent systems)
  • Flexibility to travel when required
