Health & Safety Executive (Logistics)

Scope of the Role

The Health & Safety Executive – Logistics will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective implementation of Health & Safety (H&S) standards across logistics operations, including port operations, transport activities, and material handling. The role focuses on maintaining a safe working environment aligned with company policies and legal requirements while minimizing risks to employees, contractors, and stakeholders. The position requires strong field presence, coordination with internal and external stakeholders, and continuous improvement of safety practices within dynamic logistics environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance on Health & Safety matters across logistics operations, ensuring strong field presence at all sites.
  • Monitor and report H&S KPIs, including incidents, near misses, and corrective actions to drive safety performance.
  • Ensure alignment with company H&S standards and legal requirements across all logistics locations.
  • Promote and enforce incident reporting, hazard identification, and proactive safety culture among employees and contractors.
  • Support investigation of incidents and ensure corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented.
  • Manage contractor and transporter safety, ensuring compliance with H&S requirements and safe working practices.
  • Develop and review risk assessments, job safety analyses (JSA), and safety procedures for logistics activities.
  • Conduct H&S training, inductions, and awareness programs to enhance safety knowledge and competencies.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities and support drills to ensure effective response to incidents.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders such as port authorities and service providers on safety-related matters.
  • Ensure inspections, certifications, and compliance of equipment, vehicles, and PPE used in logistics operations.
  • Maintain accurate H&S records, reporting systems, and documentation to support organizational decision-making.

Requirements

  • Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (NEBOSH/NIOSH/IOSH preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Health & Safety within logistics, industrial, or operational environments.
  • Strong knowledge of H&S regulations, risk assessment practices, and incident investigation processes.
  • Experience in logistics-related safety areas such as transport management, lifting operations, and material handling will be an advantage.
  • Good communication skills in English and Sinhala with the ability to engage and train teams effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and compliance.
  • Ability to work independently, handle pressure, and maintain a strong safety culture across multiple locations.
  • Willingness to be mobile and work across logistics locations based on operational requirements.
