The Medical Officer is responsible for providing high-quality medical care to patients, ensuring clinical excellence, patient safety, and compliance with hospital standards. The role involves managing outpatient and inpatient cases, coordinating with consultants and other healthcare professionals, and supporting the overall delivery of healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care, including the diagnosis, treatment, and management of illnesses.
  • Conduct medical examinations, prescribe medications, and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
  • Supervise and collaborate with nursing and paramedical staff to ensure effective patient care.
  • Monitor and respond promptly to emergency medical situations.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Provide consultation and referral services for specialized medical conditions.
  • Participate in medical audits, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Educate patients and their families on health management and preventive care.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control and patient safety protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: MBBS or an equivalent medical degree from an institution recognized by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).
  • Registration: Valid registration with the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 to 2 years’ post-internship experience in a hospital or clinical setting is preferred.
  • Additional Experience: Experience in ICU, Anaesthesia, and A&E will be an added advantage.
  • Skills: Strong clinical knowledge, excellent diagnostic abilities, and effective communication skills.
  • Personal Attributes: Compassionate, ethical, and dedicated to patient care.
  • Availability: Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and night shifts, as required.
