SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER – OPENEDGE

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer – OpenEdge with strong expertise in Progress OpenEdge (ABL/4GL). You will play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing enterprise solutions, mentoring junior engineers, and driving best practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using Progress OpenEdge (ABL/4GL).
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient solutions.
- Design and develop database structures, queries, and business logic using SQL, Temp-Tables, and ProDataSets.
- Optimize application performance and ensure high availability.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex production issues.
- Lead technical design discussions and code reviews.
- Mentor and guide junior developers; promote best practices and coding standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, BA, and DBAs.
- Participate in system upgrades, migrations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure application security, data integrity, and adherence to best practices.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or related field.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in Progress OpenEdge (ABL/4GL) development.
- Strong experience in Progress OpenEdge ABL/4GL, RDBMS, SQL, ProDataSets, Temp-Tables and Triggers.
- Experience with PASOE, AppServer and REST APIs is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of database design, performance tuning and indexing.
- Good knowledge of source control tools (Git, SVN).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience with Angular, JavaScript, or REST integrations.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience with reporting tools (e.g., JasperReports, Progress Reports).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) is a plus.
