WE ARE HIRING Assistant Manager – Commercial Operations (Imports)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Overall responsibility for import and clearing operations across multiple product categories handled within the Group. Plan and coordinate imports to ensure timely shipment scheduling, documentation and uninterrupted supply.
  • Liaise with overseas suppliers to ensure smooth execution of orders and shipment arrangements. Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, clearing agents, transport providers, insurers, government authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure cost-effective and timely clearance of consignments.
  • Oversee import-related financial activities including payment scheduling, container deposits, pre- and post-shipment costing, landed cost calculations, and budget adherence.
  • Attend to quality-related matters and coordinate the resolution of issues relating to imported consignments. Ensure compliance with all applicable import regulations, statutory requirements, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of shipments, import costs, freight charges, insurance claims and related commercial transactions. Negotiate with logistics and service providers to achieve efficient and cost-effective supply chain solutions.
  • Prepare periodic reports on import activities, shipment status, costs and key operational metrics for management review. Drive continuous improvement initiatives within SAP (ERP) and related systems to enhance operational efficiency, monitoring capabilities, and reporting accuracy.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE;

  • Bachelor's Degree or Professional Qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in import operations, commercial functions, shipping, logistics, and supply chain management.
  • Sound knowledge of import procedures, customs regulations, shipping documentation, and international trade practices.
  • Experience in costing and budgeting will be an advantage.
  • Strong negotiation, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Sinhala.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical capabilities.
  • TIEP and Bonding shipment experience will be an added advantage
