Position: ASSISTANT MANAGER – QUALITY ASSURANCE
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions across the manufacturing process.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensure all PET preforms, PET bottles, closures, and plastic packaging products meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor incoming raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Establish and maintain quality inspection plans, testing procedures, and acceptance criteria.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and continuous improvement projects.
- Investigate customer complaints and implement effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, GMP, 5S, HACCP (where applicable), and customer quality standards.
- Plan and conduct internal quality audits and coordinate external certification and supplier audits.
- Monitor key quality KPIs such as customer complaints, rejections, process capability, and quality costs.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Supply Chain teams to improve product quality and process efficiency.
- Validate new products, raw materials, packaging materials, and production processes before implementation.
- Review and approve quality documentation, SOPs, work instructions, specifications, and inspection records.
- Ensure all measuring and testing equipment are properly calibrated and maintained.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate QA staff while promoting a strong quality culture throughout the organization.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety, hygiene, and environmental standards.
- Prepare quality performance reports and present findings to senior management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Quality Management, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Professional qualifications in Quality Management will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in Quality Assurance, including 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably within PET preform, PET bottle, plastic packaging, beverage packaging, FMCG, or manufacturing industries.
- Strong knowledge of Injection Moulding, PET Preform Manufacturing, Stretch Blow Moulding, Plastic Packaging, and Packaging Quality Standards.
- Hands-on experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and a strong understanding of GMP, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, CAPA, RCA, SPC, FMEA, 7 QC Tools, and Statistical Quality Control.
- Familiarity with customer audits, supplier quality management, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify process improvements.
- Excellent leadership, team management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP systems.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent written and spoken English and Sinhala.
