Senior Engineer - Business Intelligence
Location: HQ - Colombo, Sri Lanka
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and build data transformation pipelines and workflows on Microsoft Fabric, including Dataflows and Fabric Warehouse
- Design and build enterprise-level shared semantic models using strong data modelling principles, including star schema, fact and dimension design, and hierarchies
- Define and maintain security roles and data access controls across shared semantic models, including country, station, and user-level permissions for reporting and integration requirements
- Develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, apps, and paginated reports that meet business and operational requirements
- Manage Power BI administration tasks and optimise report performance
- Support data governance practices by maintaining data dictionaries, enforcing naming standards, managing data elements, and ensuring data quality and lineage across BI assets
- Lead and mentor junior BI Engineers by providing technical guidance, conducting code reviews, and establishing team standards
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, present data insights clearly, and maintain consistent documentation standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in Business Intelligence and Analytics
- Strong Power BI skills with proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M) for data transformation and model preparation
- Strong data modelling and data warehousing skills
- Hands-on experience with Azure data tools, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Analysis Services, Azure Data Lake, and Azure SQL Server
- Strong SQL skills, including complex queries, query optimisation, and data manipulation
- Experience with Python for scripting and data processing
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric will be highly advantageous
- Experience with Azure Databricks, including PySpark, Delta Lake, and notebook-based workflows will be an added advantage
- Experience using Git or GitHub for version control and CI/CD in data and BI projects will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of logistics or supply chain operations will be advantageous
- Experience with advanced analytics, predictive modelling, or AI/ML integration in BI solutions will be an added advantage
- Strong understanding of data governance principles
- Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
