Senior Transactional Accountant – Australian Accounting & Bookkeeping Firm

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Transactional Accountant to join our dynamic offshore team in Sri Lanka. Role Overview
You will be responsible for delivering high-quality accounting and bookkeeping services for a portfolio of Australian clients through managing and maintaining accurate financial records. This role involves overseeing daily account transaction activities, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive bookkeeping experience, excellent organisational skills, and a keen attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Accounting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using cloud-based accounting software (primarily Xero)
- Record day-to-day financial transactions and ensure data integrity
- Perform bank, accounts payable, and accounts receivable reconciliations
- Oversee payroll processing, including calculating and recording payroll transactions, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Prepare financial statements and reports to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies. Including:
- Profit & Loss
- Balance Sheet
- Cash Flow Statements
- Prepare and review:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and stay updated on changes in Australian accounting standards and tax regulations
Advisory & Analysis
- Provide financial analysis with insights and recommendations to support decision-making
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting
- Identify opportunities for cost control, efficiency improvements, and profitability
Collaboration
- Train junior Bookkeepers, providing guidance and support to enhance their professional development
- Work closely with internal team members to meet deadlines
- Liaise professionally with stakeholders when required
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified or part-qualified: CA / ACCA / CPA
- OR Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
- 5+ years’ experience, ideally with Australian accounting firms or clients
- Strong understanding of:
- Australian payroll & tax compliance
- GST & BAS
- Proficient in Xero (Xero Certification will be highly regarded)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
