Job Title: SENIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
Location: Work from Home / Full Time
The Opportunity
We are seeking a qualified and suitably experienced Senior Structural Engineer with a strong background in building design to join our team.
The role will involve taking technical responsibility for structural design projects, carrying out structural analysis and calculations, reviewing design information, and working closely with engineers and technicians to deliver practical, accurate, and high-quality structural solutions. The role also includes taking leadership of project teams and mentoring junior engineers.
This is a remote full-time position, fully working from home and the opportunity provides working on a varied range of residential and building projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake structural analysis, design, and calculations for building projects involving steel, concrete, timber, and masonry in accordance with relevant Eurocodes, British Standards, and Building Regulations.
- Prepare structural calculations using TEKLA TEDDS or similar software, together with hand calculations where required.
- Review architectural drawings, existing information, surveys, and site conditions to develop appropriate structural design solutions.
- Take technical responsibility for assigned projects from initial review through to completion of the structural design package.
- Review structural drawings and details to ensure they accurately reflect the design intent and are suitable for construction.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and technicians, including reviewing their work and assisting with technical queries.
- Coordinate with the Technical Director, engineers, technicians, architects, and other project stakeholders to resolve design and construction-related matters.
- Provide technical input on RFIs, design amendments, site queries, and structural issues where required.
- Identify design risks and coordination issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
- Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of technical, quality assurance, and design standards within the engineering team.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably with strong experience in building design.
- Strong knowledge of structural design principles and relevant Eurocodes, British Standards, and Building Regulations.
- Proficient in structural analysis and design software, with experience using TEKLA TEDDS or similar.
- Strong experience in preparing and reviewing structural calculations and drawings.
- Good technical judgement with the ability to work independently and make appropriate engineering decisions.
- Ability to guide and mentor engineers and technicians and effectively communicate technical requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively within a remote team environment.
- Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional chartership would be an advantage.
