HEAD OF TECHNICAL

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Head of Technical to lead our Ship Repair Division, driving technical excellence, business growth, profitability, and the successful execution of ship repair projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall technical operations and business performance of the Ship Repair Division, with accountability for revenue, costs and profitability.
  • Drive business growth and revenue generation by identifying new ship repair opportunities and developing a strong pipeline of profitable projects.
  • Lead and oversee ship repair projects from enquiry to completion, ensuring timely, safe, quality and cost-effective execution.
  • Provide technical leadership across marine engineering, mechanical, electrical, structural, piping, fabrication and automation-related repairs.
  • Review technical scopes, quotations and project requirements, providing strategic input on pricing, estimation, contract negotiations and commercial risks.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with ship owners, ship managers, technical managers, Chief Engineers, port authorities, Class Surveyors, suppliers and contractors.
  • Drive optimum utilization of manpower, equipment and subcontractors, while identifying opportunities for cost reduction and productivity improvement.
  • Ensure strict compliance with HSE requirements, Classification Society standards, OEM recommendations and applicable maritime regulations.
  • Lead, develop and build the capability of the technical team through effective performance management, training and competency development.
  • Identify opportunities for new technical capabilities, equipment and service offerings to strengthen the Ship Repair Division.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in ship repair, shipyard operations or marine engineering.
  • Chief Engineer Class 1 Certificate of Competency would be preferred
  • Degree or Diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Sailing experience as a Chief Engineer or Second Engineer would be highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in managing complex ship repair projects and multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Strong technical knowledge of marine diesel engines, pumps, compressors, electrical systems, welding, fabrication, piping and automation.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in cost control, estimation, pricing and project profitability.
  • Excellent leadership, customer relationship management, negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to drive business growth, operational excellence and profitability in a dynamic maritime environment.
