Junior Legal Officer

Position Objective

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Legal Officer to support the company's business operations in Sri Lanka. The successful candidate will assist management and internal teams with legal research, regulatory compliance, contract review, legal documentation, and other legal matters relevant to the company's operations.

The role will provide exposure to a broad range of corporate, commercial, labour and regulatory matters, including requirements applicable to business operating under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission (CPCEC) framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support management and internal departments with legal research, preliminary advice and guidance on matters relating to the company's business operations in Sri Lanka.
  • Monitor and keep the company updated on new laws, regulations, regulatory developments and government policy that may affect business operations.
  • Research and interpret applicable legal requirements under Sri Lankan Company Law, Labour Law and other relevant legislation, including CPCEC-related laws and regulations.
  • Review, draft and assist in preparing agreements, contracts, employment-related documents, letters, notices, policies and other legal documents.
  • Assist HR and management with legal matters relating to employment, disciplinary procedures, employee relations and labour law compliance.
  • Identify potential legal and regulatory risks and assist management in developing appropriate recommendations and mitigation measures.
  • Maintain and organise legal records, agreements, correspondence and regulatory documentation.
  • Liaise and coordinate with external legal counsel, government authorities, regulatory bodies and other relevant stakeholders when required.
  • Support the company in handling legal, regulatory, compliance and corporate matters.
  • Assist with other legal and administrative matters assigned by management or senior legal personnel.

Skills & Qualifications

  • A recognised LLB degree from a recognised university in Sri Lanka.
  • Attorney-at-Law qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Trainee-level candidates and fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of Company Law, Labour & Employment Law and Commercial Law.
  • Good legal research, analytical, drafting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to understand and interpret laws, regulations and government policies relevant to the company's business operations.
  • Ability to work effectively with management and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general legal/document management tools will be an advantage.
