1. JOB PURPOSE

  • Generates and facilitates connections with key media and stakeholders for MSF in Sri Lanka and other South Asia countries
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of MSF South Asia campaigns and events
  • Performs research to support with context reports, opinion and analytical pieces

1. Create and maintain contact with media in Sri Lanka, India and other South Asia countries, connects them with MSF spokespersons in a timely and comprehensive manner. Conceive and create media coverage opportunities for MSF in line with MSF regional and global strategic and campaigning objectives and wherever required in collaboration with MSF operations and other campaigning teams.

2. Write and/or distributes press releases to media, Draft and updates talking points for media engagement on different MSF projects in India.

3. In conjunction with Media Manager, organise press briefings for media and facilitates press visits.

4. Support identifying and training MSF spokespeople for proper representation with media. Support in briefing and debriefing outgoing and returning field volunteers to prepare them for

7. Update the media database with relevant media contacts.

1. Report and support analysis of relevant topics like important social, policy-related and legal issues for MSF leadership in and South Asia.

2. On a daily basis, monitor Sri Lankan and Indian media, and key South Asian media in order to stay abreast of global events directly relevant to MSF's work and to maintain knowledge of reporter and photographer beats and movements.

3. Support briefing MSF South Asia management and staff on MSF work around the region and world.

  • Support in developing and implementing outreach plan in support of MSF South Asia humanitarian and health campaigns
  • Participate in creating strategic engagement and outreach plans to support key MSF initiatives like Access Campaign, GHHM Educational opportunities, fundraising, humanitarian and medical advocacy, among others
  • Participate in and manage fundraising and friends of MSF events branding content
  • Establish contact with key stakeholders in Sri Lanka and countries in South Asia as target audiences for events and seminars
  • Compile and manage a strategic list of stakeholders, including notable figures from NGOs, academia, think tanks, and MSF staff globally, to ensure a diverse and influential audience for upcoming events.
  • Follow up and report on the progress of campaign implementation efforts

  • 1. Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings to share information, brainstorm solutions, and coordinate priorities.
  • 2. Participate in planning and implementation of MSF-India's communications strategies, policies and procedures.
  • 3. Carry out other duties that may reasonably be required by the Media Manager and/or Director of communications in the light of the main purpose of the job.
  • 4. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings, in-office presentations/debates to stay informed on important MSF topics.

4.Key Interactions

Reports to Media Manager with dotted line reporting to Campaigns Manager

Works closely with all members of the Communication team, departments of MSF South Asia, as well as the General Director, the association and the HR departments.

Collaborates with MSF operations in South Asia countries including field communications teams, as well as other MSF institutional communications team

5. Other Indicative Requirements

Educational Qualifications & Functional/Technical Skills

Relevant Experience (Type of experience and minimum number of years)

Graduate in Journalism, communication, marketing, social science, media research or equivalent field from a reputed institute and/or a combination of relevant professional experiences in line with the responsibilities listed in this job description.

3 years of experience working in media organizations, or communications agency, as a journalist or communications specialist. Experience in NGOs is a strong asset.

Ability to effectively present information synthesize complex and sensitive material accurately to produce press releases and articles for publication in regional media.

Other requirements (Behavioural, Language, Certifications etc, including competencies)

Previous Experience in handling media networks and monitoring tools

(Meltwater, Talkwalker etc.)

Knowledge in a South Asian languages is a strong asset (Sinhala, Tamil, Hindi,

Urdu, Bangla).

Excellent communication and (re)presentation skills.

Able to work under tight deadlines.

Able to organize & prioritize workload independently

Creative, proactive and flexible.

Demonstrated knowledge of international affairs and humanitarian activities.

Demonstrated knowledge of leading global health issues and policies.

Demonstrated knowledge and embrace of social media, especially as a

strategic media relations tool.

Flexibility to work on irregular days and hours, if need be.

Willingness to travel within and outside Sri Lanka.

High level of integrity, confidentiality and diplomacy.

Excellent knowledge of MS Office especially MS Word and MS Excel

Contract duration is one year with a possibility of contract period extension.

Compensation gross per month range LKR 456628 to LKR 651042(final salary will depend on the scaling of the CV as per MSF criteria). 13th Month bonus (equivalent to one month gross) will be additional.
