Honda Lamaya, Sri Lanka’s first elder companionship startup, we’re on a heartfelt mission to address senior loneliness. We connect kind-hearted, emotionally intelligent young people with elders who need genuine connection, conversation, and care.
We’re now looking for graduates in Psychology (or other fields) who are ready to use their education in the most meaningful way—not in a lab or behind a desk, but alongside someone who truly needs your presence.
Job Details
- Position: Executive
- Location: Colombo, Western Province
- Duration: Full Time
- Working Hours: 9am - 5pm
Responsibilities
- Visit seniors in their homes and provide them with companionship and emotional support
- Observe and understand each elder's emotional, mental, and physical condition over time
- Spend quality, intentional time with senior citizens—engaging in conversations, activities, and shared routines
- Build real relationships with elders through empathy, respect, and consistency
- Help improve their emotional wellbeing through companionship (not caregiving or medical care)
- Use your training to identify and respond with compassion to emotional or cognitive needs
- Assist with basic tech, or a walk in the park—whatever brings joy and dignity
- Be adaptable and able to engage with seniors of all personality types
Requirements
- A graduate with a BSc in Psychology or other fields (fresh graduates welcome!) / high education diploma is accepted
- Emotionally mature, patient, and naturally empathetic
- A strong communicator and a sensitive listener
- Someone who finds meaning in building human connections
- Respectful toward elders, culturally grounded, and passionate about purpose-driven work
- Bonus: Experience with elders, mental health, social work, or counselling
Important
- This is a full-time paid position and not a volunteer position
- Applicants must be between 18 to 25 years old (as our model focuses on intergenerational friendships)
