Overview of the Job Responsibilities
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will play a pivotal role in the financial management of construction projects from inception to completion. This includes cost planning, budgeting, procurement, contract administration, and providing strategic commercial advice to ensure the successful delivery of projects within the agreed financial and time constraints.
Job Responsibilities:
- Overseeing and managing all cost-related aspects of projects, from initial planning to completion.
- Developing accurate cost estimates and budgets for projects, including material costs, labour, and project timelines.
- Negotiating contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring favourable terms and conditions.
- Identifying, assessing, and managing project risks, including potential cost overruns and delays.
- Identifying opportunities to optimize project costs while maintaining quality and functionality.
- Preparing and presenting financial reports, including project budget variances and cost analysis.
- Ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations and regulations.
- Providing expertise on claims, disputes, and any contractual issues that arise during the project lifecycle.
- Leading and mentoring a team of QS.
Education Required and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive QS experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in managing commercial aspects of construction projects across different sectors.
- Prior handling of multiple projects and subcontractor claims will be an added advantage.
Competencies and Skills Required:
- Proficiency in using quantity surveying software, project management tools, and construction-related software.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with clients and subcontractors.
- Ability to negotiate effectively with stakeholders and secure favorable outcomes.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively.
