Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
We are looking for an experienced marine biologist to run our prestigious Marine Lab at Diamonds Thudufushi in collaboration with the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy. The resident biologist is the focal point for any marine biology activities on the island, while working closely with our marine research manager and the biologist team across our properties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Manage daily marine lab activities and supervise interns
- Manage the island’s large-scale coral restoration and conservation projects
- Conduct guest engagement and educational activities including presentations, workshops and in-water activities
- Guide daily snorkeling excursions and related duties as part of the recreation and watersports team
- Conduct reef monitoring, manage database and assist with various research projects
- Assist with content creation for education and marketing purposes
- Share your enthusiasm for the marine environment and its protection with guests and team players
- Experience in a five-star property in a similar position, at least 1-2 years
- Master degree in Marine Science or related field
- Excellent knowledge of coral reef ecology, common and characteristic marine species of the Maldives and coral restoration techniques
- Comprehensive scientific skills allowing you to independently plan, collect, analyze and interpret data
- Excellent communication skills in English and preferably also Italian
- Physically fit with excellent snorkeling skills and diving qualification (preferably rescue or higher)
- Previous practical experience in coral restoration is desirable
- Must be enthusiastic to work with multi nationality & able to live on a remote island
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive “CAN DO” and teamwork attitude
