The Job Role
- Ensure full compliance with the operations procedures as per the department’s operations manual.
- Respond promptly and accurately to inquiries from Principals and customers, allocating tasks among the operations team based on job scope and complexity.
- Monitor and authorize disbursement accounts, petty cash, and payments in line with company policies, while initiating cost control measures.
- Support the General Manager in managing departmental costs, debtor control, and liaising with finance teams for remittances and collections.
- Maintain and grow strong relationships with current customers to ensure client retention and business sustainability.
- Oversee and guide the operations team to follow SOPs, regulatory requirements, and ensure smooth vessel operations.
- Ensure all statistical and management reports are updated and submitted on time.
- Assist in business development activities, including converting service inquiries into confirmed orders and pursuing new principals and special projects.
- Directly manage critical or complex operations until handover to the team is feasible.
- Represent the company at SL Ports Authority Dispute Committee Meetings as required.
- Ensure full adherence to GAC policies, including compliance, ethics, and sanctions.
- Be available 24/7 to attend to operational requirements and emergencies, including on-board vessel visits.
- Lead and mentor junior staff, allocate team jobs efficiently, and act as a bridge between management and the team.
Skills and Experience Required
- Qualification from the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers or a Degree in Shipping or Logistics.
- 5–7 years of experience in the shipping industry, with a solid understanding of port and vessel operations.
- Strong knowledge of the technical aspects of vessels.
- Proficient in English (both written and spoken).
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- A strong customer service mindset and professional communication skills.
- Excellent public relations and inter personal skills.
- Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
