Nienhuis Asia (Pvt) Ltd is a multinational Dutch manufacturing company producing premium Montessori educational products for export purpose. The company is ISO certified BOI approved and in operation for 29 years in Sri Lanka as a fully owned subsidiary of Heutink Investments B.V. in Netherlands.

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative professional to join our team as Assistant Manager – Product Development. The selected candidate will play a key role in leading product design and development initiatives, ensuring the creation of high-quality, manufacturable, and cost-effective educational products.

ASSISTANT MANAGER – PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and support product design projects from concept to production.
  • Develop detailed 3D models and technical drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Supervise CNC programming for 3-axis and 5-axis machines, including tooling optimization.
  • Coordinate with production, procurement, and quality teams to ensure feasibility and efficiency of designs.
  • Proceed sample/prototypes and conduct and lead design reviews, testing, and modifications.
  • Maintain a robust library of standard components, templates, and design documentation.
  • Material/process calculations and controls.
  • Monitor project timelines and ensure adherence to development schedules.
  • Research new materials, technologies, and design methodologies to improve product value.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Mentor junior designers and assist in the training of new team members.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma/NVQ Level 5 or above in Mechanical/Process Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in product design or development in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks mandatory).
  • Experience in CNC programming, machine setup, and process optimization.
  • Sound knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, tolerances, and DFM principles.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and work under tight timelines with minimal supervision.
  • High attention to detail, creativity, and a passion for innovation.
