General Manager – Internal Audit

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop annual risk – based internal audit plan covering the entire organization for Audit Committee review and approval.
  • To review the adequacy and effectiveness of Internal Control Systems, identify significant risk exposure related to internal controls of non-compliance with policies and procedures, laws and regulations.
  • Determine an appropriate strategy to test the effectiveness of controls.
  • Ensure methodical documentation of work plans, testing results, conclusions and recommendations. Ensure follow up on findings and corrective actions.
  • Identify weaknesses in internal control systems and recommend improvements to systems and processes, including computerized systems to prevent/minimize vulnerability to fraud, abuse and wastage.
  • Assessing the reliability and integrity of information.
  • Evaluating the means of safeguarding assets and verifying the existence thereof.
  • Evaluating operations or programs to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and goals and whether they are being carried out as planned.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations on business risks and improving operational efficiencies and processes where appropriate.
  • Provide technical assistance with investigations, special audits, and provide subject-matter expertise as needed.
  • Recommend organizations – wide training based on gaps identified to ensure adherence to company's practice and policies.
  • Direct the work of external auditors on select audits, as directed by the Audit Committee and senior management, to ensure the audit work remains within the prescribed guidelines.

Candidate Profile

  • Management / Accounting Degree from a university and a member of CA Sri Lanka.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a professional audit firm in the financial service industry at a Senior Management level.
  • Audit experience in the insurance industry will be an advantage.
