Job Description
Job Profile:
- The selected candidate will be expected to optimally apply legal skills to support the achievement of Recoveries and Credit monitoring targets through effective litigation strategies, regulatory compliance, and proactive legal interventions.
- Review security documents to ensure they are complete, valid, and enforceable, and thereby supporting successful legal recovery processes.
- Collaborate with relevant business operation units to address any deficiencies identified in the document review, strengthening the Bank's position in planned legal actions.
- Oversee the custody of all documents entrusted for initiating legal proceedings.
- Regularly review and update the database regarding new laws, regulations, and amendments to existing statutes, and implement proactive initiatives to mitigate any adverse impacts on ongoing legal actions.
- Serve Letters of Demand (LOD) to encourage repayment obligations to precede the initiation of legal proceedings.
- Advise and direct that non-performing assets (NPAs) be referred to the Mediation Board.
- Prepare legal pleadings under the guidance of the Manager - Legal.
- Coordinate and arrange necessary documentation and witnesses for pre-trials and trials as required.
- Support the Bank's motions and applications presented in the Court of Law.
Candidate Prerequisites:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized University is a must. Possession of a Masters in Law (LLM) will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 03 years of professional experience as an Attorney-at-Law in a litigation setting, specifically within a banking or financial institution.
- Should demonstrate strong legal expertise in the recovery of bank loans and advances.
- Proficiency in negotiation and effective communication skills in both English and Sinhala languages.
- Competence in computer skills, particularly with MS Office applications.
- Excellent time management and research skills.
- Should be an analytical thinker and a collaborative team player.
