The Senior Manager – Logistics and Freight Forwarding is responsible for overseeing all inbound and outbound logistics operations including domestic and international freight forwarding, customs clearance, warehousing, distribution, and documentation. This role requires expert knowledge in logistics, freight regulations, and supply chain optimization to ensure the timely and cost-effective movement of goods while maintaining compliance with all statutory regulations.
Responsibilities
- Manage international and domestic freight operations via sea, air, and land.
- Liase with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and airlines to negotiate rates and optimize routes.
- Ensure all export/import documentation (BL, AWB, COO, commercial invoices, packing lists, etc.) is accurate and compliant with trade regulations and ensure timely customs clearance and compliance with import/export regulations.
- Manage coordination for LCL, FCL, and consolidation shipments. Work closely with regulatory bodies and clearing agents.
- Supervise warehousing and inventory control activities.
- Identify and evaluate logistics service providers, including warehouse operators, and freight forwarders.
- Review contracts, service levels, and ensure adherence to service level agreements.
- Maintain accurate logistics records and reports for audits and internal use.
- Coordinate Letter of Credit (LC) documentation and banking processes related to trade.
- Develop logistics budgets and control freight and logistics costs.
- Lead and mentor logistics staff and document controllers.
- Develop training programs to enhance team capabilities.
- Ensure alignment with organizational goals and cross-functional collaboration.
Job Specification
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or Business Administration.
- Professional qualifications in freight forwarding, international trade (e.g., FIATA, IATA, CILT, APICS) are highly desirable.
- Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience & Key Skills:
- Minimum 8–12 years in logistics and freight forwarding, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
- Strong experience in import/export procedures, customs clearance, and international freight.
- Familiarity with global logistics practices and Incoterms (FOB, CIF, DDP, etc.).
- Excellent knowledge of international trade laws and logistics regulations.
- Strong relationship skills with shipping lines and customs authorities.
- Proficient in ERP systems and freight software.
- Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional logistics teams.
- Excellent planning, organizing, and analytical skills.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of regional languages is an asset.
