Naturalist
The Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya, with its proud 133-year legacy, is Sri Lanka’s first hotel to earn the Heritage Grand classification. Surrounded by the scenic beauty of the hill country, we offer a unique blend of colonial elegance, luxury, and natural charm. We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Naturalist with a strong background in biodiversity and conservation, eager to create engaging, nature-focused experiences that highlight the rich flora and fauna of Nuwara Eliya.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct guided nature walks, bird-watching tours, and outdoor activities in and around Nuwara Eliya.
- Create personalized nature experiences for guests, including families, couples, and solo travelers.
- Educate guests about the unique ecosystems of Sri Lanka’s hill country, including endemic species and conservation efforts.
- Provide insights into the cultural and historical significance of the region’s natural landmarks.
- Share in-depth knowledge of local flora, fauna, and ecosystems with guests.
- Design and lead engaging, educational, and interactive nature-based experiences for guests of all ages.
- Promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
- Work closely with the hotel’s marketing team to promote nature-based experiences through social media, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Continuously update and improve programs based on guest feedback and emerging trends in eco-tourism.
Qualifications & Skills:
- A qualification in Environmental Studies, Zoology, Botany, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a naturalist, environmental educator, or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Sri Lanka's biodiversity, particularly in the Nuwara Eliya region.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for conservation, adventures, and environmental sustainability.
- Fluency in English; additional language proficiency is a significant advantage.
