Operating since 1985, ChildFund Sri Lanka implements programs to improve the lives of deprived, excluded, and vulnerable children. Through partnerships with community-based organizations and government stakeholders, ChildFund works in 12 districts, reaching over 400,000 children, youth, families, and communities. Programmatic areas include early childhood development, health and nutrition, education, socio-emotional learning (SEL), child protection, emergency response, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, disability inclusion, and youth civic engagement.
The SELAS program, led by ChildFund, aims to strengthen children's social-emotional learning and psychosocial well-being, key contributors to academic success and holistic development. SEL helps foster personal and interpersonal skills, reduces behavioral challenges, and enhances mental health. However, scaling SEL in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) like Sri Lanka faces challenges, including resource limitations, cultural barriers, and weak policy integration.
In Sri Lanka, ChildFund is expanding the SELAS initiative under its Education for Protection and Well-being (EPW) model. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE), the project will develop culturally relevant SEL frameworks and training packages to be embedded within the primary education system. These efforts will include hybrid training modules for pre-service and in-service teachers, supported by strong monitoring, evaluation, and research components.
ChildFund seeks a motivated and experienced Consultant Program Coordinator to support the implementation of the SELAS program in Sri Lanka. This full-time, one-year consultancy (July 2025 – June 2026) requires working five days a week and includes travel to project districts as needed.
