MANAGER INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive comprehensive adherence to statutory labor and HR compliance standards. Provide strategic legal expertise and HR advisory support to management in order to mitigate risk and safeguard organizational interests. Oversee the end-to-end Disciplinary Management Procedure, and represent the organization in public forums.
  • Act as the authorized legal representative for the company in matters brought before Labour Tribunals, the Department of Labour, and other statutory bodies.
  • Champion social and labor compliance by designing standard operating procedures and driving awareness among SPARtans. Continuously monitor operational adherence and decisively defend the organization’s interests during compliance audits or disputes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Employers' Federation of Ceylon (EFC) and other regulatory bodies for all complex labor-related consultations and negotiations.
  • Execute impartial domestic inquiries, draft legally sound show-cause notices, and critically evaluate employee explanations. Communicate disciplinary findings to all relevant stakeholders to ensure the prompt, equitable, and legally compliant resolution of all disputes across the network.
  • Brief and guide external legal counsel on company proceedings and domestic inquiry findings, ensuring optimized legal strategies that yield maximum benefit to the organization.
  • Continuously modernize HR policies and practices to ensure strict alignment with evolving Sri Lankan labour laws and industry compliance standards.
  • Strategize and execute proactive employee relations and grievance resolution initiatives, collaborating with all SPARtans to foster a harmonious, productive workplace culture.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s, or Postgraduate Diploma in Law (LL.B), Human Resource Management, or Business Administration from a recognized university/institution.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of specialized experience overseeing HR Operations, Disciplinary Management, and Employee Relations within a dynamic retail or FMCG environment.
  • Extensive practical exposure to Industrial Relations, with an excellent command of Sri Lankan Labour Laws.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and Sinhala, with the ability to draft formal legal correspondence and inquiry reports.
  • Strong analytical acumen and interpersonal skills, capable of negotiating and de-escalating complex workplace conflicts efficiently.
