VACANCY – MAINTENANCE MANAGER
Methodist College invites applications from qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Maintenance Manager. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and smooth operation of school buildings, facilities, grounds, equipment, and related support services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee maintenance and operational readiness of all school buildings, classrooms, laboratories, halls, washrooms, playgrounds, storage areas, and common spaces
- Supervise maintenance staff, cleaning staff, gardening staff and outsourced service providers
- Conduct regular inspections and proactively identify maintenance and safety concerns
- Coordinate electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry, gardening, cleaning, and general maintenance work
- Ensure school premises remain safe, clean, organized, functional, and presentable at all times
- Implement preventive maintenance systems and schedules
- Supervise contractors, repair projects, and rectification work
- Ensure proper maintenance and protection of school assets and equipment
- Oversee event and operational setup requirements for school functions and activities
- Maintain maintenance records, inventory systems, reports and operational documentation
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and operational procedures
- Coordinate quotations, procurement processes, and maintenance-related purchases
- Ensure timely follow-up and completion of maintenance and operational tasks
- Provide leadership and operational ownership in maintaining high safety standards and implementing best practices in maintenance, compliance and facility management
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, Building Services, Property Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field OR
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or institutional property management including supervisory responsibilities
- Experience in schools, hotels, hospitals, factories, churches, or large institutional environments will be an added advantage
- Strong knowledge of building maintenance systems, preventive maintenance, contractor supervision, and operational coordination
- Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, structural, and general building maintenance systems
- Strong leadership, staff supervision, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to independently manage operational concerns with minimal supervision
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and proactive follow-through
- Ability to maintain safe, child-friendly, and operationally compliant school premises
- Good communication, reporting, and organisational skills
- Ability to prioritize urgent operational and safety-related matters effectively
- Computer literacy and ability to maintain reports/documentation
