Social Worker

Reports to: Deputy National Director

Location: CERI Sri Lanka – Batticaloa

Contract Duration: 1-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension

Purpose of the Role

The Social Worker will provide overall technical leadership and supervision for programme-level social work and child-focused interventions implemented in Sri Lanka. The role is responsible for ensuring quality, consistency, and ethical practice across the Family Strengthening Programme, Early Childhood Care and Development (ECC D) Programme, and the Family Resource Center (FRC). The Social Worker will provide technical supervision and guidance to programme-level staff in child- and family-centered interventions, ensuring that all services are child-centered, family-based, and aligned with national child protection frameworks, safeguarding standards, and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and guidance for social work and child- and family-centered programme interventions, ensuring adherence to nationally accepted standards, best practices, and child protection guidelines.
  • Promote child-centered, family-based, and community-oriented approaches across all programmes.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide professional guidance to programme-level staff, supporting their development, reflective practice, and well-being.
  • Ensure strict implementation of organizational Child Safeguarding and Child Protection Policies, including the safe identification, reporting, referral, and follow-up of child protection concerns.
  • Promote ethical social work practice, confidentiality, informed consent, and the best interests of the child.
  • Coordinate with relevant government institutions, community structures, and service providers, ensuring appropriate referral pathways for children and families.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and confidential documentation, contribute to programme reporting, learning, and quality assurance processes.
  • Support programme monitoring, compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and national frameworks, and contribute to continuous programme improvement.
  • Develop and strengthen programme-level staff competencies in social work practices through ongoing coaching and progressive training.
  • Report to the Deputy National Director and participate in internal coordination, planning, and decision-making processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) or related field; Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) is an advantage.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in social work, child protection, or related programmes.
  • Proven experience in supervising, mentoring, or training staff in social work practices.
  • Strong knowledge of child protection frameworks, safeguarding policies, and referral mechanisms in Sri Lanka.
  • Familiarity with community-based, family-centered, and child-centered approaches.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, managing multiple priorities, and support programme quality and accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and in accordance with professional standards.
  • Ability to work effectively both in the office and in the field, coordinate with teams, and contribute as a collaborative and supportive team member.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for motorcycles.
  • Fluency in Tamil, with working knowledge of English.
