Job Opportunity: Senior Sales & Services Engineer – Industrial Division (CBM)

Location: Head Office – Seeduwa (with island-wide travel)

Reports to: Directors / Division Leadership

CBM is looking for a strong Senior Sales & Services Engineer to drive industrial B2B sales growth while ensuring high-quality technical service delivery across our core industries. This role blends technical solution selling with hands-on engineering support, helping customers improve reliability, uptime, and total cost of ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Execution & Pipeline Ownership

  • Drive sales of bearings, power transmission products, and industrial machinery/components across assigned industries and key accounts.
  • Build and manage a structured pipeline (leads → site visits → proposals → closures) and deliver monthly/quarterly targets.
  • Conduct customer visits, plant surveys, and opportunity identification to expand share-of-wallet and cross-sell the CBM portfolio.

Technical Solution Selling & Application Engineering

  • Assess customer requirements (loads, speeds, duty cycles, environment, failure modes) and recommend correct-fit solutions.
  • Present technical value clearly to engineering, maintenance, and procurement teams (performance, uptime, ROI, interchangeability).
  • Support product selection, basic engineering calculations, compatibility checks, and correct installation practices.

Services Delivery & Field Support

  • Support and grow service activity including installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, retrofits, and site supervision.
  • Ensure service quality through job planning, tool readiness, method statements (where needed), and clear reporting.
  • Drive “first-time-fix” thinking through structured root-cause investigation and corrective/preventive recommendations.

Customer Management & Coordination

  • Coordinate with internal teams (sales coordinators, procurement, stock control, logistics) to ensure timely quotations, deliveries, and service execution.
  • Track inquiries, follow-ups, and closures with disciplined documentation and stakeholder alignment.

Forecasting, Reporting & Commercial Discipline

  • Maintain accurate forecasting for assigned portfolio/accounts and support working-capital discipline by promoting healthy stock movement.
  • Support tender participation, quotation preparation, and clarification responses where required.
  • Use Excel dashboards/trackers for target monitoring, visit planning, and performance reporting.

Requirements

  • 5 years in industrial B2B sales + engineering/service exposure (bearings/power transmission/industrial components).
  • Strong ability to diagnose technical requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence both technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with reporting, pipeline tracking, and Excel-based forecasting.
  • Willingness to travel island-wide for client meetings, audits, demos, and service support.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree/diploma (or equivalent experience). Additional qualifications are a plus.

Added Advantage

  • Experience handling key accounts, service-driven selling, or leading small site teams/mentoring juniors.
  • Familiarity with tenders, principal coordination (multi-brand), and working knowledge of Incoterms / import-driven supply constraints.
