Visa Assistant

The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka is seeking eligible and qualified applicants to serve as the Visa Assistant in the Consular Office.

The selected candidate will serve as The Visa Assistant who performs consular duties delivering nonimmigrant and immigrant visa services including data entry, document review, correspondence, passport manifesting, and visa printing. The position requires strong customer service skills, a high level of attention to detail for documentary compliance, and the ability to identify and escalate issues as needed. The Visa Assistant must be fully cross trained to rotate between NIV/IV (Non-Immigrant Visa/Immigrant Visa) sections as required and must carry out all work accordance with established Consular Section procedures and visa processing guidelines.

The work schedule for this position is: Full Time - 40 hours per week.

The monthly gross salary for this position will be Rs. 202,802.58

Qualifications Required:

  • Education - Completion of High School is required - Completion of G.C.E. A/L – Candidate must have obtained at least simple passes for a minimum of two main subjects. Candidate must attach relevant educational certificates.
  • Prior Work Experience - Minimum two (2) years experience involving the application of regulations and law, extensive public contact, customer service, or problem-solving experience is required. Candidate must attach copies of relevant service/work experience certificates.
  • Language Proficiency - Good reading, writing, and speaking ability in English is required. (This may be tested). Good reading, writing, and speaking ability in Sinhala or Tamil is required.
  • Job Knowledge - Good understanding of local governmental organizations, immigration law and practices, and cultural and social practices.
  • Skills & Abilities - The position requires intermediate Microsoft Word and Outlook skills, basic Excel and PowerPoint proficiency, and the ability to produce accurate work quickly under pressure. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound judgment, effective communication in English and the local language, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
