ABOUT THE ROLE
At the Academy of Design (AOD), we believe that mental wellbeing is foundational to creative excellence. We are seeking an empathetic, skilled, and clinically grounded Campus Clinical Counselor to provide dedicated mental health support to our vibrant student body.
In this role, you will offer a safe, confidential space for students navigating the unique psychological demands of higher education and the creative industry. You will handle clinical mental health care, crisis intervention, and emotional wellbeing, working alongside our administrative staff, academic faculty, and our Neurodivergence Support Coordinator to foster a holistic ecosystem of care. This can be considered as a full time or part time role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clinical Counseling & Psychological Support
- Provide high-quality, confidential, short-term individual psychotherapy and counseling to students dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, and transitional challenges.
- Conduct clinical assessments to understand students' psychological needs and establish appropriate intervention paths.
- Offer crisis intervention and immediate psychological first aid for acute mental health emergencies on campus.
- Collaborative Care & Referrals
- Work collaboratively with the Neurodivergence Support Coordinator on overlapping student needs, such as managing academic anxiety and emotional regulation strategies.
- Partner with multidisciplinary student support teams to manage complex student wellbeing cases while strictly maintaining professional confidentiality.
- Maintain a robust network of external clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and medical centers for students requiring specialized or long-term psychiatric care.
- Preventative Wellbeing & Visibility
- Facilitate occasional mental health workshops, support groups, and wellness campaigns aimed at stress management, resilience, and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.
- Participate in student orientation events to introduce mental health services to incoming cohorts.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Essential Qualifications:
- Education: A Master’s degree (or equivalent postgraduate qualification) in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Counseling, or Counseling Psychology.
- Insight: A deep understanding of the unique developmental, emotional, and psychological challenges faced by young adults and adolescents today.
- Desirable (Highly Valued):
- Environment: Direct experience working as a counselor or therapist within an educational or academic environment (university, college, or international school).
- Demographic: Proven track record of working with adolescents and young adults (ages 16–25).
- Credentials: Registration or membership with a recognized professional psychological or counseling body in Sri Lanka.
- Key Attributes:
- High level of clinical integrity, boundaries, and absolute commitment to ethical confidentiality.
- Exceptional listening and interpersonal skills with a warm, non-judgmental, and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work calmly, confidently, and systematically under high-pressure or crisis situations.
