The company delivers innovative environmental, water, energy and sustainability solutions, with ecological assessment central to much of its work. We're now seeking a motivated, hands-on Field Project Officer to support implementation, monitoring, and quality assurance across the T-SHADE Restoration Project in the Nuwara Eliya region.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The T-SHADE Restoration Project enhances ecosystem productivity and resilience across tea landscapes through shade tree establishment and complementary restoration, spanning tea fields, riparian zones, buffer areas, and low-productivity lands managed by plantation companies and smallholder farmers. The successful candidate will work closely with NipM, TRI, regional plantation companies, nursery operators, field teams, NGOs and local communities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Implementation & QA
- Quality Assurance and Quality Compliance of tree planting and restoration activities
- Field verification, data collection and record-keeping
- Plantation health and survival assessments
- Nursery development and site establishment support
- Feasibility assessments and implementation reviews
Community Engagement
- Site identification and boundary mapping
- Engagement with plantation companies and smallholder farmers
- Meetings, workshops, and training sessions
- Coordination with district teams and stakeholders
GIS, Data & Reporting
- Spatial data and records via GIS software
- Plantation, nursery, and agroforestry logs
- Field notes, case studies, monthly reports
- Maps, training records, and field photographs
What You'll Bring
- G.C.E. Advanced Level plus an NVQ Level 5+ vocational qualification (Agriculture, Plantation Management, Forestry, or related)
- 3–5 years' relevant field experience
- Experience with tea plantations, smallholders, or rural communities
- GIS / mobile data collection experience preferred
GOOD TO KNOW
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Sri Lankan vehicle licence; motorcycle/vehicle access required
- Tamil, English & Sinhala language skills are highly regarded
- Comfortable in rugged terrain; flexible for occasional weekend work
