Corporate Communications Lead

Location: Colombo

Job Profile

Corporate Communications Lead will be responsible for three of the most crucial areas of Communications in World Vision, namely, media engagement, reputation management, and emergency communications. This position will also strategies in influencing public opinion on development issues through media platforms and bringing media on board to amplify and advocate for the needs of the most vulnerable children in Sri Lanka.

Major Responsibilities

Develop and execute media engagement strategy through analyzing the media context, identifying potential key media partners, and engagement levels that will positively position WVL. The media strategy will also include media protocols for internal use and a media crisis guide. Lead and guide the Public Engagement Specialist in achieving targets for social media and digital marketing, websites are up-to-date, and 100% brand alignment. Ensure media preparedness of WVL by developing/updating Message House, Media Universe, and regular media monitoring, media tracking, media landscaping, etc. Organize and manage media visits to the field and support networking of the WVL's programs with regional correspondents. Manage reputation risks for WVL by prior preparation of risk messaging in consultation with the Regional Lead on Reputation Risk Management. Be the main Comms focal point during an emergency and be responsible for the declarations, situational reports, updates, and sharing of information on WV Relief and other platforms. Be responsible for revising the Communications Disaster Preparedness Plans. Champion and facilitate skills development of communications staff/focal points of different projects and identified field staff in responding to and engagement with media.

Required qualifications, experience & competences

At least 7-8 progressive years of experience in media or media engagement. At least 3 years of experience in an international development organization, preferably in the INGO sector. Bachelor's Degree in media studies, journalism, mass Communication, English, or related field. Experience in crisis and reputation risk communications will be an advantage. Excellent skills in developing media pitches, news releases, key messages, Q&As, and talking points for media interviews. Travel to the field is required. Excellent oral and written (English) communication skills and proficiency in local languages (Sinhala/Tamil). Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
