Project Accountant - Mihikatha Lanka Project

Location: Welikanda (Polonnaruwa District)

Project Duration will be 4 years

Job Profile

The position is responsible for providing high quality, accurate and consistent Financial support for the project. He/she will also support the financial procurement to achieve its optimal usage and eventual reporting to World Vision Lanka (WVL) management and stakeholders. Moreover, the accountant will ensure a smooth payment process and timely coordination of Financial operational procedures such as planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluation, Project closure and audit, etc. in line with WVL Policies and Procedure as well as Financial Manual (FM).

Major Responsibilities

  • Train and/or upgrade knowledge and skills of the Project staff on Grant requirement and relevant World Vision (WV) accounting policies, procedures, methodologies and systems. Ensure the country of origin is verified and suppliers screened to clear from Block Party for all the purchases related to this project as per BHA Project regulations.
  • Monitoring Staff Advance limits & timely settlement.
  • Watchful of audit risk areas & drive the team for the limited Risk.

Preparing Annual Budget Implementation plan for Field Activities.

Impart necessary knowledge to the Project staff to maintain purchasing requirements and budgetary controls.

  • Monthly Ledger verification and necessary corrections done within the month before monthly accounts finalization.

Support the operational staff at field office in preparing Annual Procurement plan.

Coordinate with suppliers for any follow ups either from Supply Chain Management (SCM) team or suppliers.

  • Visits project area as needed and assure community engagement.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

Minimum of Five (5) years accounting experience in similar capacity.

Bachelor's degree in Finance, or Part qualification from recognized accounting body (CA Sri Lanka, CIMA).

  • Knowledge and understanding of handling Grant/ donor funding under required regulatory environment.
  • Ability to Reading, Writing and speaking in English and Sinhala or Tamil.
