Development works here.
USAID's Efficient and Effective Justice (EEJ) Activity aims at an improved justice system in Sri Lanka that meets the needs of society and upholds the rule of law. Its interventions are strategically geared toward introducing improvements to the justice system in the form of structured, well-functioning, and up-to-date mechanisms that will better equip legal and judiciary institutions. The EEJ Activity strengthens legal institutions and justice sector actors to reach international justice standards. To achieve this goal, the EEJ Activity works across the government, judiciary, legal, education, civil society, and public sectors to engage with key stakeholders. Thereby, the program will ensure that it strengthens the administration of justice, improve standards of legal practice and the rule of law, increase capacities of legal personnel and judiciary institutions, and increase public confidence in and access to the country's justice system.
Under the Model courts initiative, EEJ is supporting the courts nominated by Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to measure their case backlogs and the time taken from case filing to resolution. The purpose of this activity is to identify whether the courts are meeting the agreed time standards for concluding the cases and conduct regression analysis as requested by the EEJ team.
