POSITION: CAMPAIGNER

  • This position is only open to the candidates that have legal rights to live and work in Sri Lanka.
  • This position is offered on a 12 month fixed term full time contract basis initially, with possibility of extension

Location: The position is hybrid (home-office). We offer competitive NGO level salary and benefits, the specifics of which depend on location where the successful candidates will be based. We aim to share this information with candidates before reaching the offer stage.

Greenpeace South Asia is a newly established regional office which is at the initial stage of development with an interesting portfolio of the countries. We are looking for a Campaigner who will contribute to provide relevant organizational information to the organisation's stakeholders. As an important member of the Campaigns Team you will contribute to the success of the team.

Whom we're looking for:

The Campaigner is a key position to initially establish further development of Greenpeace South Asia. Hence the individuals shall commit to Greenpeace's values of direct action, non-violence, internationalism, and independence, and a determination to protect the natural world. We believe people gain seniority and expertise on the job, what really matters is the soft skills and openness to learn and work collaboratively with the team. Therefore, someone who has a few of these is well suited to exceed in this role:

  • In this role you will:
  • Develop and implement effective and integrated campaign plans, strategies and tactics related to the overall vision, goals and objectives for climate campaign and Greenpeace India
  • Be able to research and communicate internally on issues related to the campaign.
  • Need to have strong knowledge of campaign development tools, use them in campaign development.
  • Be able to plan, conceptualise and develop the campaign logic for actions.
  • Take the lead in planning and strategy development of the specific strand of campaigning with inputs from the team and campaign manager.
  • Maintain good knowledge on relevant campaign issues and provide expertise with respect to specialized campaign areas.
  • Show an understanding of, and exposure to, the roles that science, politics, economics, industry, media and social change play and their strategic implications on campaigning. Represent Greenpeace at external fora related to the issue or campaign strand. Actively participate in public speaking engagements and respond to media queries etc. according to the needs of the campaign program. Prepare press briefings and updates to inform assigned media staff on the campaign issues and maintain consistent external communication of issues.
  • Be in conjunction with the GP South Asia digital team, design, create and develop digital tools to engage and mobilise various audiences to achieve campaign objectives. Have basic knowledge in using social media and GP digital tools. The understanding of media guidelines and digital metrics to increase impact of communications and engagement, is a major plus.
  • Liaise and build relationships with media, business, volunteers and activists, government and non-governmental organisations on issues relevant to campaign objectives. Communicate and engage with inter-governmental bodies and government officials as needed. Effectively present information to a variety of audiences.
  • Need to plan, manage and coordinate activities of a campaign/project with a team to deliver the objectives of the campaign program.
  • Taking Decisions

At this level, the campaigner will have decision making authority in a specific project aligning with the wider campaign program. They would have to agree on the scope of their authority with the campaign managers.

The campaigner is required to work in line with the processes and the operating guidelines of the organisation.

Contacts

Internal

  • Liaise with members of the communications/actions/media and fundraising teams in the GPSA office for the purpose of implementing plans. Also interact with relevant people in GP International as well as other NROs.

External

  • Liaise with external service providers with oversight of the campaign manager.
  • Be the spokesperson for GP and therefore establish relationships with external media people as required by the campaign and in collaboration with the media unit.
  • Meet people in the external world to gather information, work together with, lobby and advocate the campaign position.
