Driver

We work in more than 20 countries through our 17 permanent country offices and programs across Asia and the Pacific, supported by a headquarters in San Francisco and an office in Washington, DC. Our funding comes from a diverse array of bilateral and multilateral development agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals.

The Driver will work under the direct supervision of the Administrative Manager, and will take responsibility of the Foundation vehicles, will maintain and keep the vehicles in trouble-free excellent condition for the use of Foundation's Representative and the staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides reliable and secure driving services by driving vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel.
  • Collects and delivers mail, documents, and other items and assists the Administrative Manager in collecting cheques and delivering documents to the bank.
  • Ensures proper use of the vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean. Informs the Administrative Officer when a repair or service is due for the vehicle.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.
  • Assist staff with performing any physical tasks in relation to logistics during field visits.

Required skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Completion of G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination or equivalent.
  • Drivers training with a valid heavy vehicle driver's license.
  • Eight years work experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Previous experience with an international Non-Governmental-Organization (INGO) will be an advantage. Should be able to furnish a valid police report which should be submitted within 7 days of recruitment.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
  • Fluency in oral English required. Fluency in either Sinhalese or Tamil is required.
