Institute of Chemistry Ceylon Job Description:

  • The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon is the successor to the Chemical Society of Ceylon (founded in 1941) and was established in the year 1971 for the general advancement of the science and practice of chemistry. The Institute was incorporated by Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1972.

  • Applications are invited for the following posts from the citizens of Sri Lanka who possess the qualifications and experience specified under each post as given below;

1. SENIOR LECTURER IN APPLIED MANAGEMENT

  • Qualifications and experience:

  • Four-year first Degree in the field of Management

  • A Doctoral Degree in the relevant field

  • A Masters Degree in the relevant field obtained after a full-time course of study of at least 24 months duration (or an equivalent part-time course of study) with a research component by way of thesis/dissertation or A full time Masters Degree in the relevant field of a minimum of 18 months duration with at least 60 credits* of which not less than 15 credits* of research by way of thesis/dissertation {*One credit considered per course unit/module should be in accordance with the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF)}

  • A general degree in Management with MBA or M Sc. in Management Studies (not less than 18 months duration)

2. SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

  • Qualifications and experience:

  • Qualification in ICASL/CIMA/ACCA. In addition, a Degree in the field of Finance or Accountancy is preferred.

  • Minimum of five years' experience in a similar capacity. Candidates with exposure and experience in private higher educational institutes/private sector service industry preferred.

3. SCIENTIFIC OFFICER

  • Qualifications and experience:

  • BSc. Honours degree in Chemical Science/Graduateship in Chemistry (GIC) qualification from the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon OR BSc. Special degree in Chemistry from a recognized university

  • Postgraduate degree in Chemistry/Chemical Science from a recognized University/Institution

  • Experience in laboratory instrument handling and maintenance, supervision of research students in the field of Chemical Science and product analytical services will be an added qualification

4. TECHNICAL OFFICER (CHEMICALS & EQUIPMENT), GRADE III

  • Qualifications and experience:

  • Should pass in three (3) subjects including Chemistry at the G.C.E (A/L) examination in one sitting in the Science Stream.

  • N.V.Q. Level 5 qualification in one of the following study programmes:

  • i. Higher National Diploma in Engineering (HNDE) specializing Electronics Engineering

  • ii. National Diploma in Technology (NDT) in Chemical/Electrical Engineering

  • iii. National Diploma in Technology/Engineering Sciences

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

The employee will be a member of the Employees' Provident Fund and Employees' Trust Fund and contributions would be made to the said schemes by the Employer and Employee in accordance with the relevant Acts.

Working on week-ends is essential but two week-days will be given off in lieu. Languages/skills-Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English /Sinhala is a must with sound knowledge in Microsoft office packages.

Only short-listed applicants based on the highest qualifications and experience, will be called for an interview and selection will be based on the performance at the interview.
