Project Coordinator (01 Position)

The Project Coordinator will hold a crucial senior position within the organization reporting to the Team Leader. The person will be overall responsible for the implementation of the community-driven food forestry initiatives including monitoring and reporting. This role requires a dynamic individual with a strong background in community facilitation and training at the grassroots level and also managing the rest of the team of this initiative. The ability to effectively collaborate with diverse state and non-state stakeholders including donor partners and knowledge institutions.

Job Description:

  • Lead and oversee the implementation of food security initiatives through a participatory food forestry approach in close collaboration with the Team Leader and other colleagues.
  • Train staff and communities in facilitation skills and participatory approaches
  • Liaising closely with communities and identifying potential individuals to be peer trainers at the community level.
  • Monitor and evaluate overall progress on achievements and disseminate information at community levels and widely
  • Prepare the reports for the donor and Government
  • Develop and maintain an effective database and analytical support for efficient and timely program delivery.

Ongoing engagement and negotiations with donors to ensure donor compliance and timely reporting

Experience and skills required:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in development facilitation at the field level.
  • Experience in training grassroots communities in a practical setting ideally with exposure to practical agriculture
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and coordinating projects from design to completion.
  • Managing a diverse team and fluency in written and spoken skills in English &Tamil, and working knowledge of Sinhala will be an added advantage.
  • High level of computer literacy

Project Officers (02 Positions -Manthai West and Madhu DS Divisions)

The Project officer facilitates setting up the food forests in homes and compounds of the target community. The process would involve promoting a high degree of community participation and ownership of this initiative.

Job Description:

  • Facilitate the implementation of food security initiatives through a participatory food forestry approach in close collaboration with other colleagues.
  • Train communities in facilitation skills and participatory approaches
  • Provide ongoing advice and training to farmers to improve productivity, crop diversification, and adopt better agricultural practices
  • Liaising closely with communities and identifying potential individuals to be peer trainers at the community level.
  • Assist in monitor and evaluate overall progress on achievements and disseminate information at community levels and widely
  • Prepare the activity progress reports including outcomes.

Update and maintain accurate records of beneficiaries and other project-related data and the emerging context and other stakeholder interventions on an ongoing basis in an easily accessible format to inform our decisions

Experience and skills required:

  • Minimum 2 years of field experience in community facilitation
  • Experience in training grassroots communities in a practical setting.
  • Knowledge of agriculture and exposure to practical agriculture
  • Fluency in Tamil. Working knowledge of English and Sinhala will be an added advantage.
  • Good level of computer literacy

Other Essential Requirements for All Positions

  • A valid motorbike riding license is essential
  • Passion for community development work and ability to spend most of the work time in the field
  • Care for the environment is essential.
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous working experience in the same region is highly desired
