Sri Lanka - Less Travelled is a community-driven tourism project implemented by Chrysalis to develop sustainable community-based bio-diversity tourism signature sites in Kothmale and Ambagamuwa DS Divisions in the Nuwara Eliya District and Ambanganga Korale and Dambulla DS Divisions in Matale District. As tourism has traditionally been the third largest foreign exchange earner in Sri Lanka, the project aims to contribute to the national economy by increasing tourist arrivals and supporting the income generation of local communities in targeted locations. The project is developing 5 community based eco-tourism signature sites in selected locations, capacitating 60 women and youth as nature-based tour/travel companions and supporting 20 women-led eco-tourism-based enterprises and 40 self-employed women and youth as ecotourism-based support service providers.

The Assignment

Chrysalis is currently seeking a Consultant to provide expertise in developing the businesses and enhancing their capacity to cater to tourists visiting the above-mentioned sites. While these selected businesses show potential for integration into tourism value chains, they require further knowledge, skills, and exposure development. Therefore, Chrysalis is seeking a consultancy team to collaborate with these businesses to elevate their standards to meet the growing standards of the tourism industry.

Deliverables

The following deliverables are expected from the consultants:

  • An inception report that sets out the key theory and practice considerations in delivering the scope of work
  • A methodology including areas of emphasis, a work plan, a planned set of outputs, content and method of training, a sample business growth plan and a coaching and mentoring plan and tools
  • Training and workshops:
    • Two-day basic business skill training
    • Two-day workshop for the Business Growth Plan development
  • 83 Business growth plans
  • Coaching & mentoring for the MSMEs and livelihoods
  • A final report should be submitted at the end of the assignment that will cover the process, profiles of the businesses, challenges, learnings, recommendations, etc.

Time Frame

The proposal should be submitted on or before 20th May 2024

The assignment should commence by end May 2024 and be completed by 31st October 2024
