Job Title: Social Worker

The Congregation of Our Charity of the Good Shepherd (OLCGS) was founded in France in 1835 and it now present in 73 countries worldwide. The mission of the OLCGS is to address issues affecting women girls and children. OLCGS adopts a rights based approach which emphasis on the dignity and empowerment of women and girls. In Sri Lanka, the sisters work mainly in protection and empowerment programs targeting women and children as well as those oppressed by the society. Good Shepherd Sri Lanka currently runs residential and non-residential programmes for women and children in need of support and care.

We wish to employ an experienced Social Worker to work with the children and women in the residential programmes. The Social Worker is a critical member of our team who will provide comprehensive social services to our programme participants. This position involves a high level of interaction with children, women, their families, and various stakeholders to ensure their welfare and development. The Social Worker should have a strong commitment to service, the ability to work with children and women from diverse backgrounds, and an understanding of case management and group program facilitation.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Handle documents related to admissions, home visits, assessments, and reintegration process.
  • Produce final case files for the conference in consultation with the manager.
  • Accompany the child/women to court and represent the Child Care Institution (CCI)/
  • women center at hospitals for health-related matters.
  • Support participants in obtaining government-related services pertaining to reintegration, NIC, Birth Certificates, etc...
  • Assist the manager in overall program implementation, based on the logical framework or agreed activity plan.
  • Plan and conduct all extra-curricular activities and events, coordinating health-related matters as needed.
  • Organize and conduct a case conference once a month and updating records

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Any degree related to project management, child protection/development, social work, human development, or a related field.
  • Field Experience: Previous experience in social work or program coordination in the development sector or in NGO. (Two years)
  • Child Development Expertise: Prior experience in social work or human development, particularly focusing on childcare or development.
  • Safeguarding Knowledge: In-depth knowledge and understanding of safeguarding principles and practices.
  • Communication Skills: Strong understanding of child development with excellent communication and listening skills.
