Construction Materials Imports Procurement Consultant - KG Group of Companies
Position Summary
KG Group of Companies is on the lookout for a Construction Materials Procurement Consultant to work for us on a part-time basis to advise us on importing construction materials such as Steel reinforcement, Cement, Aluminum, roofing sheets, wiring, etc. from countries such as India & China. The group is interested in developing some of its under-utilized assets by constructing buildings and warehouses for commercial purposes. The current cost of construction materials in Sri Lanka and huge mark-ups by local suppliers has made construction in Sri Lanka economically unviable. Thus, with the relaxation of imports, we are looking at the option of importing all construction materials to make our projects viable, and for that we require a Construction Materials Import expert to advise us on the best way forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare analysis and recommendations for key items for import from our Construction BOQs
- Assist us in importing the short-listed construction materials from the most cost-effective countries
- Have knowledge of the top suppliers of construction materials in countries such as India Taiwan and China
- Obtain quotations from multiple suppliers to ensure the company obtains the highest quality materials at the cheapest possible prices
- Assist with Customs clearance and other legal documentation when clearing goods from customers
- Advise on insurance and shipping and have a thorough understanding of the entire import process from making the order to receiving the goods in Colombo
To be a good fit, the following statements will apply to you:
- Strong interpersonal skills and high EQ
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/ MS Teams/ MS Outlook
- Many years of experience in the Construction field and expert knowledge in importing items from many countries
- An understanding of the import process and strong connections with material suppliers from various countries
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Excellent management, time management and problem-solving skills
- Strong Mathematical knowledge and able to review BOQS to ensure we are importing all the correct items
- Contacts within the customs for clearance of goods & a strong understanding of the import regulations
